And it was a memorable way to score the first EVER Red Rose try against the Springboks in Cape Town.

Delighted boss Jones said: "I'm sure he'll be on the front page of The Sun.

"There was one opportunity for us to score a try. It was a beautifully-weighted kick and we scored.

"I said before the game we might not have many opportunities and that he would possibly be good enough to take the opportunity - and he did."

After his first Test start in a decade, play-maker Cipriani was pleased to make a difference when it mattered.

He said: "Luckily there was probably only one winger in the world that could have scored that and it was Jonny.

"As he’s showed throughout this series, he’s absolutely rapid and you can push the boundary with him. He’s always asking for extra work in training and for those types of kicks.

"When you’ve got a winger that is that hungry then it’s all on him."

And as Cipriani and May bought their boss more time in the job, Jones added: "After every Test you either feel good or you feel bad.

"That lasts for about three or four hours, then you’re back on the treadmill again. I feel better than I did the first two weeks, but it’s all on again.

"We would like to play South Africa next week because we’re coming to a peak now, so we’re trying to arrange a game at Twickenham for next week!"
