Joshua, 28, said: "I can't wait to get back in the ring.

"The end of March feels a long time ago now.

"Povetkin is a serious challenge that I will prepare meticulously for, he has serious pedigree, and only a fool would underestimate what he brings to the table.

"Training hasn't stopped for me, but the next ten weeks ahead will be intense both mentally and physically.

"I will push myself to breaking point to make sure I am in peak condition for another huge night for British boxing at Wembley Stadium on September 22."

Povetkin, 38, won an Olympic gold medal eight years before Joshua did, at Athens 2004.

The Russian also held the WBA title between 2011 and 2013, before a loss to Klitschko in Moscow.

His last fight was a brutal knockout of David Price on the Joshua-Parker undercard in March.

Hearn said this fight will be "one of the biggest tests" of Joshua's superstar career.

However, fans have made it clear they want to see AJ facing American WBC champ Deontay Wilder - a clash that could come next April.

One fan on social media wrote: "Wake us up when it's Wilder", while another said: "Eddie, stop feeding us beef burgers when we ask for steak."

One wrote: "Wow, a fight no one gives a f*** about. Only fight people care about is against [Wilder].

"You know this though."
