Unlike Lewis Hamilton, he's not posting pictures about his private life on social media and remains fiercely protective of his family.

He said: "Formula One is big part of my life and my life would look a lot different for many reasons if I wasn't here, but it's not the most important thing.

"It's not who I am, it's just what I do. Obviously they are in a way linked, but I also think it's important that there's a lot of time where it doesn't define who I am.

"I am not the person who is sharing their experiences, especially nowadays with social media. It's just not my thing.

"Am I closed? I would say generally I'm pretty open. People can talk to me and say whatever they want.

"I want people to look at me as who I am not as what I do. People also have expectations.

"I'll give you a classic one...'ah you're a Formula One driver, you're living a very fast life. You're making money, you can do whatever you want'.

"But I'm just happy to do things that people probably consider boring because for me they're not boring.

"Being at home, mowing the lawn. Do I go shopping? Do I ride on the metro or the bus? Yes if I have to, if it's more convenient."

Sebastian Vettel sees himself as a sportsman, not a celebrity

Vettel, who currently leads the drivers' championship by one from Hamilton, has a strong connecting with the British fans at Silverstone.

He shares the same sense of humour and says he loves spending time in the capital, yet whenever he does visit, he doesn't have an diva demands and queues up like the rest of us.

He added: "The other day I was thinking, it's the British Grand Prix and it would be nice to go to London.

"I like London as a city and then go to the galleries, go to the National History Museum and do those things.

"I don't need special back door to get in or whatever. I just queue up. If I want to see something, then I also need to be happy to queue, that's how I look at it.

"There isn't a sign saying 'celebrities allowed in', but then again, I'm not a celebrity, I'm a sportsman."
