SWEDISH F1 driver Marcus Ericsson has taunted Lewis Hamilton by insisting he cannot wait to see his nation beat England in the World Cup on Saturday.

Hamilton is so desperate to watch the Three Lions' quarter-final clash in Russia that he's willing to risk the wrath of F1's bosses by skipping his post-qualifying media commitments.

Hamilton will cross the line in Saturday's qualifying session at the same time as England kick-off against Sweden, and has booked Sunday 15th July off in the hope of seeing Gareth Southgate's side in the final.

But Sauber driver, Ericsson, says Hamilton should not be too confident and is expecting his nation to come out on top.

He said: "It is going to be a big game, I am looking forward to it.

"I was happy England won against Colombia because we are always strong against England.

"It would also be nice to beat the English. It is always a nice feeling."

Hamilton meanwhile has been loving the World Cup - so much so that he has cleared his busy diary so that he can travel Russia for the final in Moscow.

The Brit said: "I can only imagine the boys are definitely on a high at the moment, they just need to commit.

"I hope they are sleeping and eating well, because that is a large part of it and ultimately go out there and enjoy themselves, there's so much pressure on them.

"Obviously it being a World Cup but there's so much support for them, England is just known for such excited fans.

"You see it here, you see it at stadiums, even myself watching the other day - I don't watch enough football.

"I played it as a kid and I was massively passionate about it, I used to collect all the stickers and stamps for magazines, books etc.

"Just watching on the edge of your seat, the passion is crazy, everyone is watching their country play, it's it's in your DNA and it's so exciting.

"I have booked my day off next Sunday, I will keep it free as I want to be in Russia that day."
