BROCK LESNAR’S explosive UFC return to fight Daniel Cormier could happen as early as January.

The Beast has not fought in UFC since defeating Mark Hunt in July 2016 – a result that was later overturned after the victor failed a pair of drug tests by US Anti-Doping Agency and was handed a one-year ban.

Lesnar returned to WWE and is the current Universal Champion on Monday Night Raw.

But he has now been given the green light to step back in to the octagon after USADA confirmed the ex-heavyweight title holder re-entered its drug-testing pool on July 3.

A statement said: “After receiving notice of his intent to compete in the UFC, Brock Lesnar re-entered the testing pool on July 3.

“With six months and four days remaining on his period of ineligibility, Lesnar will be able to compete on or after January 8, 2019, should he remain in compliance with the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.”

That means the 40-year-old is officially out of MMA retirement and now looks set to answer the call from Cormier after their explosive face-to-face showdown on Saturday.

Lesnar was cageside to witness Cormier’s historic heavyweight title victory against Stipe Miocic.

Light-heavyweight king DC, 39, became dual champ with a first-round knockout before calling out the watching Beast and daring him to step into the cage.

Lesnar answered the call and immediately shoved Cormier before security intervened to separate the two monsters.

UFC President Dana White revealed later that night the promotion has plans to have Cormier defend his belt against his fellow American.

He said: “We’re definitely going to make that fight.”

And that means a huge showdown WILL take place if Lesnar can stay clean for the next six months.

Cormier has long been outspoken against fighters for using performance-enhancing drugs and insists he will do everything possible to ensure Lesnar is legit before fighting him.

He said: “I’m not going to fight him if he’s not clean. We’ll do USADA testing, and we’ll do other testing. We’ll do testing above USADA to make sure this man’s clean, because I’m not going to fight him if he’s cheating.

“I’ve done that on a number of occasions already (with others). I don’t want to fight him if he’s dirty, man. Do it the right way.”
