JOE ROOT will continue playing every white ball match but England plan to drop one big-hitter to bring back Ben Stokes.
Test captain Root, 27, is under the spotlight because he cannot launch sixes as far as the likes of Alex Hales or Jason Roy.

But Root will keep his Twenty20 spot when Stokes returns — probably for Alex Hales — in the last of three matches against India.
The reason is simple: Root is England’s best batsman.
Acting coach Paul Farbrace said: “You need your best batsman and he is world class in all formats of the game.
“In my mind he plays in both 50-over and T20. I can’t believe anybody in our set up would argue against that.

“You need people playing in different ways. There will be times when Joe is the outstanding player in a T20 game and get us over the line because of his nous and his high level of skill.
“The best players adapt and score runs. Joe has a cool head and could bat anywhere in the order.”
England have rampaged runs against Australia recently but know it will not always be like that. And if they are 20-3 or chasing 155 on a tricky pitch, that is when Root comes into his own.
All-rounder Stokes, 27, is due to make his comeback after a torn hamstring as a specialist batsman for Durham against Yorkshire in the T20 Blast on Thursday.

England’s first T20 against India is at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Farbrace added: “Stokes coming back will give the selectors an issue but it’s a great problem to have.”
