JAMES DEGALE is officially in the market for a massive domestic battle after dropping his IBF super-middleweight belt.

The 2008 Olympic golden boy lost the belt in a huge shock loss to Caleb Truax in December 2017. But he wrestled it back from the American in another 12 round war four months later.

DeGale’s last six fights have gone the distance and his thrilling 2017 draw with Badou Jack was a memorably brutal clash that cost the southpaw his front teeth.

And he has decided to quit the political clamour for belts – that would have involved gruelling and low-key mandatory defences – to target British grudge matches.

Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren wants Chunky to meet his WBO middleweight champ Billy Joe Saunders, who is serious danger of ring rust after missing on Canelo and Gennady Golovkin again.

Loudmouth nearly man Chris Eubank Jr has made lots of big statements about how he would handle DeGale but he made the same claims about George Groves and came up short.

Groves vs DeGale II remains one of the most talked about British rematches on the horizon after the savage 2011 meeting that DeGale narrowly lost.

But WBA super-middleweight Groves is in the final of the World Boxing Super Series and is waiting on a date to meet Callum Smith.

But the 32-year-old remains confident he will land big-money bouts in the lucrative autumn of his career.

DeGale said: “No World champion easily gives up their World title that they’ve earned the hard way in the ring and I’ve proudly held the IBF World title in two reigns with pride and distinction which is why it makes it very hard decision to relinquish the belt.

“It has been a honour to be recognised as the IBF World Champion and I hope that by now vacating it will ease the transition to determine a successor between the Interim champion Jose Uzcategui and the next highly ranked available contender.

“I’ve achieved so much in my career, Olympic Gold, British, European and International titles and two-time World Champion and I believe I’m at the top of my game right now.

“I’m in the final phase of my career where I have a few good years left where I can be involved in massive fights and really leave a legacy in the division’s history.

“My team have been working very hard behind the scenes and we’ve got some very big and exciting news to announce soon.”
