Eddie Jones calls on snakes to shake his England flops into shape in South Africa

ENGLAND were spooked by deadly black mambas — just two days after being bashed by the Boks.
Their team hotel turned into a reptile house after a visit from some of the world's most venomous snakes.

The slippery guests were brought in to lighten the mood after Eddie Jones’ men crashed to their fifth defeat in a row in Saturday’s First Test against South Africa.
After spending a night with snakes and spiders, defence coach Paul Gustard said: “We had a reptile show and a barbecue so the boys were able to not think about rugby.
“We had mambas, cobras, long green ones, long black-and-white ones . . . a snake’s a snake to me, we don’t get many in Newcastle!
“It was an activity the players chose to do and they organised it themselves.

“We didn’t have the start to the series we wanted but we can still win the series 2-1 and everyone is a firm believer in that.”
Not everyone was a fan of the show’s stars, though.

And Gustard admitted: “Dan Robson doesn’t like a spider. Nathan Hughes was probably the most confident with a snake — but Nick Isiekwe was terrible.”
Gustard's place on the tour has been questioned by World Cup-winning coach Clive Woodward in the wake of Saturday’s shocking 42-39 defeat in Johannesburg.
He quits England to take charge at Harlequins as soon as the tour ends and Woodward wondered “if his mind might be elsewhere”.
After conceding 14 tries in their last two games against the Springboks and the Barbarians, there are doubts over whether the players are still buying in to what he is offering.
But Gustard, 42, insisted: “It’s definitely not harder for me to work with the players.
“I am privileged to be a coach of the national team. I was fully focused on winning this series 3-0. That hasn’t happened but we genuinely believe we can win 2-1.

“My attention and my energy is in that and I will give everything to prepare the team the best I can.”
Saracens’ legend Schalk Brits got a shock call to join South Africa’s squad for Saturday’s Second Test — two weeks after he retired.
The 37-year-old hooker headed home to visit mates after helping Sarries lift the Premiership title in his final game.
Brits watched the First Test as a fan and even visited England’s hotel on Sunday to catch up with his Saracens pals in Jones’ squad.
But now he could be facing them in Bloemfontein.

Boks boss Rassie Erasmus said: “Schalk has extensive inside knowledge and plenty of experience from playing for Saracens.
“He knows a lot of English players well, as he plays against them regularly in the Premiership.
“We can only learn from him — specifically at the scrums, lineouts and in terms of individual players.
“He won the Premiership with Saracens a couple of weeks ago so he’s still on the ball. We’ll definitely consider him for the match 23.”
Jones has called up Worcester hooker Jack Singleton as cover for Luke Cowan-Dickie, who has a hamstring injury.
